The difference between a good website and a great website is usually in the attention to detail.
Paying attention to the detail can not only generate great results from search engines, but also deliver a much stronger brand image.
One such detail which we find is all too often overlooked by website designers is the FAVICON.
The FAVICON is the small icon that appears at the top of your browser, usually next to the address bar displaying your company logo or similar brand imagery.
Take a look at the top of your browser right now and you will notice the Pumpkin Web Design Preston logo. It takes about 5 minutes to create and upload a FAVICON to your web server and really adds a great finishing touch.
Here’s how you do it…
Open up Adobe Photoshop or your chosen graphics editor.
Create a new blank file of 15px x 15px
Add your company logo or similar brand related graphic to your 15 x 15px canvas
Save the file as a JPEG called favicon.jpg
Next you need to convert your JPEG to a .ico file. There are loads of online image file converters that you can use for this.
Now that you have your favicon.ico file you can go ahead and upload it via FTP to the root folder of your web server.
Voila…
