Design & development
We create designs that adapt to the capabilities of many devices and screen sizes. We create them iteratively using WordPress and highly customisable themes so we won’t waste time mocking up every template as a static visual. We may use visuals to indicate a creative direction (colour, texture and typography.) We call that ‘atmosphere.’ We’ll already have your brief by now, so all designs will be tailored to your business requirements exclusively.
You’ll have plenty of opportunities to review our work and provide feedback. We’ll share a link to development site with you and we’ll have regular, possibly daily contact by either phone or email.
If at any stage BEFORE we officially “launch” (make live, submit to Google, allow visitors, make available on the world wide web) your website, you change your mind about what you want delivered or aren’t happy with the direction our work is taking, you’ll pay us in full for the time we’ve spent working until that point and may terminate this contract.
Text content
Unless agreed and stated in the above summary, we’re not responsible for producing text content on your website. We provide professional copywriting and editing services, so if you’d like us to create new content for you, we’ll provide a separate estimate.
Graphics and photographs
You should supply graphic files in an editable, digital format. You should supply photographs in a high resolution digital format. If you don’t have many photographs or images of your own, we are happy to use photos and images from our own limited library of copyright free imagery. We may also purchase a limited number of new images at our cost for use on your (web design) project. Should we feel that the number of new stock image purchases required is excessive, we reserve the right to estimate and invoice for the purchases of new stock imagery. We can also point you in the direction of some great stock image companies if you’d rather purchase stock photographs or images yourself.
Code
While WordPress uses HTML (for markup), CSS (for presentation), Javascript (for the client-side), jQuery, PHP (for the backend) and mysql databases – things change quickly in the tech world. We can’t be held accountable or responsible for new code languages or technologies used within WordPress or WordPress themes.
Browser testing
Browser testing no longer means attempting to make a website look the same in browsers of different capabilities or on devices with different size screens. It does mean ensuring that a person’s experience of a design should be appropriate to the capabilities of a browser or device.
We test our work in current versions of major desktop browsers including those made by Apple (Safari), Google (Chrome), Microsoft (Edge), Mozilla Firefox and Opera. We won’t test in other older browsers.
Mobile browser testing
Testing using popular smaller screen devices is essential in ensuring that a person’s experience of a design is appropriate to the capabilities of the device they’re using. We test our designs in:
iOS: Safari and Google Chrome
Android: Google Chrome
We won’t test in Opera Mini/Mobile, specific Android devices, or other mobile browsers.
Changes to your original brief
We don’t want to limit your ability to change your mind. The price at the beginning of this contract is based on the amount of time that we estimate we’ll need to accomplish everything you’ve told us you want to achieve, but we’re happy to be flexible. If you want to change your mind or add anything new, that won’t be a problem. We’ll provide a separate estimate for any additional time.
Support
Your website is exactly that – yours. It’ll need to be well managed, maintained, updated, monitored, backed up and even repaired from time to time. For most of our clients, all of this is very daunting stuff. That’s why we provide and charge for support. There’re all kinds of things that we do for our clients under a support contract like this one. From making minor amendments upon request to advising on SEO, from resolving an issue with a WordPress plugin to embedding a new video, from changing a home page image to editing a contact form, or from running a security update to organising a back up – there really is a heck of a lot we’re prepared to do to help.
However, the world of digital is a highly complex and sometimes unpredictable place. Sometimes, your website may require some attention that is very timely to resolve. We reserve the right to estimate for any work that we deem as outside what is fair within a support contract. We can not be held accountable for the ongoing stability and full working order of your website. WordPress, WordPress themes and WordPress plugins are all third party developments with which issues and conflicts can arise. We will always try our hardest to rectify any issues, but in no way can we be held accountable.
As your website grows (which it should), you may find yourself requiring increasing levels of support from us. We reserve the right to increase our support fees as we deem necessary. We’ll always talk with you about this first.
Hosting
We’re not a website hosting company so we don’t offer support for website hosting, email or other services relating to hosting. You may already have professional hosting and you might even manage that hosting in-house; if you do, great. If you don’t, we can either recommend one of our preferred hosting providers, or we can set up your site on a server with our preferred hosting provider (Fasthosts Internet Ltd) for you. Whether you have your own hosting in place, or you’ve chosen a provider on our recommendation, or we’re hosting your website within our own account with Fasthosts, we take absolutely no responsibility for a) website down time, b) loss of information, content or assets, c) interruptions or loss of email related data or content, d) loss of potential revenue as a result of website down time, e) any other damages caused as a result of any third party hosting issue.
Search engine optimisation (SEO)
We consider ourselves to be highly experienced in SEO, however we don’t guarantee improvements to your website’s search engine ranking, but the pages that we develop are accessible to search engines. Google’s (and other search providers) methods of ranking websites in its search engine results pages (SERP’s) changes frequently. We accept no responsibility for any losses caused as a result of search engine position fluctuations.
