One of the most important aspects of designing the perfect website, is creating a landing page that will capture your audience and boost sales. So how do we achieve this? Well, this is our landing page checklist for small business success.
Why is the landing page so important?
Before we jump into the checklist, let’s take a look at why the landing page itself is so important.
The first page your potential customers will land on, after clicking through from a search engine or social media, is known as a landing page. In theory, any page on your website could be a landing page, but it is most likely that people will click through to your home page, or an area page. As a result, you can put in a lot more effort to optimize these pages, to get the most out of the attention they will draw in.
You landing page is so important because:
- it is the first impression of your company- if you want people to shop with you, or use your service, you need to make a lasting and positive first impression. And you need a landing page that is well designed and thoughtful to achieve this.
- it will link to all your other pages- many of the potential customers will use the landing page to navigate to a more relevant page. As a result, your landing mage needs to be well designed with a good layout.
- it will make or break or SEO- your search engine ranking will depend on the quality of your landing pages
Landing page checklist for small business success
To make sure your landing page is as successful as it should be, follow our specially designed checklist.
- Grab attention- If you want your potential customers to stick around on your website, you need to get their attention, and keep it. To do this, you should use stunning professional imagery, or even professional video content. This should be positioned above the fold (seen without having to scroll down) and it should draw the user in. However, it also needs to be relevant to the aim or purpose of the page, which will be reflected in the call to action button or graphic. An image or video that distracts from this is not helpful in this case.
- The Call to Action- Once you have the customers attention, you need to direct them through the purchasing or signing up experience. The best way to do this is by using a Call to Action button, which is eye-catching and will encourage viewers to click. Again, this needs to be above the fold so that your viewers can find it immediately.
- Design and layout- Your landing page needs to feel clean and uncluttered. Each individual element needs to be positioned in it’s own space. With a balance of high quality imagery, and great original content, your page can really stand out from the crowd. But, it also needs to be practical. A cluttered page with unnecessary links, can be challenging to navigate and really make it difficult for potential customers.
- Optimised images- The images on your landing page shouldn’t just be professional and stunning, they also need to be fully optimised. This means that they need to be scaled to fit, and appropriately sized, so that your page will load quickly and be effective. At the same time, you should also complete the <alt> tag attributes with a thoughtful keyword, so that your images will also rank on an image search.
- Typography- Using good typography can help your landing page make a lasting impression. However, you need to make sure that it is easy to read on all screen sizes and resolutions, to make the most out of this feature.
