Web design trends to watch this Autumn

Manchester web design newsletter background

Web design, like all other design, is cyclical. And while one style falls out of favour, another rises from the past. That’s exactly why it’s important for web designers to stay up to date with recent and relevant research. And why companies need to make sure their website remains relevant and stylish. A website that uses outdated styles can put some users off, and can prevent potential customers from shopping with, or signing up to, your company. Here at Pumpkin Web Design Manchester, we understand the importance of research and development in web design, and the necessity of ongoing changes. As Manchester’s leading web design experts, we work with companies and clients in a range of sectors, across Manchester and the North West. As a result, we have produced this guide to the web design trends to watch this Autumn.

Web design trends to watch this Autumn

Web design trends change and evolve almost constantly. But just as you can be sure that the TV schedule is about to change, and the seasonal produce will be switching in the supermarkets, web design trends tend to alter around this time of year too. So which web design trends should you be looking out for? And will they help your business? Well, some of the biggest trends will include:

  • Illustration and animated illustration
  • Bold, deep colours
  • defined panels

Illustration and animated illustration

We all know that the old hero image can be wearing a little thin for some customers. So brands and companies are shaking things up with large scale illustrations. These are being used throughout the web design, but most noticeably, above the fold. Right where the hero image would be. Now there is an advantage to this. Illustrations can focus users attention on the small details, and once you the attention of your potential customer, it’s far easier to guide them towards a conversion opportunity. For this reason intricate illustrations, with slightly animated elements are set to take web design by storm this Autumn.

Bold, deep colours

The colour purple has been touted as a design trend all year. But companies still haven’t ditched their pale blues, pastels or neutral colours to jump on board. But it seems the Illuminati, or whoever is behind this push for purple, might finally be getting somewhere. Deep, rich, bold colours are due to infiltrate our computer screens over the next month or so. As companies opt for more bold colour schemes to hep them stand out in the sea of bland. These colours will include deep, dark shades of purple.

Defined panels

In general, web design elements do tend to stay in their own space. With whitespace around to concentrate the viewers attention on one area at a time. However, blurred lines, and overlapping elements have a way of leading website visitors through a page. And the associated “chaos” can be refreshing. Despite this, it seems that this Autumn we will see companies and web designers instead opting for even more defined panels. Especially for mobile web design. This means that important information will be split into panels. So the website visitor will only see one panel at a time on a mobile device, or two or three panels at a time on a desktop. This will mean more scrolling, but it will also make it easier for users to digest the information. We are curious to see how this one plays out.
